Forecasters say Iowa is now in Day Four of what may be a nine-day heat wave. The entire state remains under an Excessive Heat Warning. Highs today are again expected to creep toward 100-degrees with a heat index of 115 or higher.

Miles Schumacher, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, says a slight drop in temperatures may come soon. There is a chance of some clouds, possible rain and slightly cooler temperatures on Thursday, but any relief likely won’t last long. Schumacher says more sweltering heat could be hitting at the peak of the next week’s statewide bike ride, RAGBRAI.

“It does look like there’s some indication we could see another resurgence here as we get into late next week,” he says. “I don’t think it would last as long as this one but we could get some pretty hot weather again by late next week.”
