A former Fort Dodge police officer was charged Saturday with extortion and sexual abuse after an investigation into an incident this spring. Forty-six-year old Galen Hindt turned himself into the Webster County Jail in Fort Dodge on Saturday morning. He appeared before a judge soon after and was released on his own recognizance.
Last April, the Fort Dodge Police Department received information that Officer Hindt was a suspect in the sexual abuse of a Fort Dodge resident. To maintain the integrity of the investigation and avoid a potential conflict of interest, the Fort Dodge Police Department requested the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation conduct the investigation into the incident.
On April 8th, Hindt resigned from the Fort Dodge Police Department.
