The start of the school year is being pushed back because of mold at one Waterloo school. St. Edward School on Mitchell Avenue will be closed for the rest of the week after the building tested positive for elevated mold levels.

Air samples were taken on Monday, and the school got the results back late on Tuesday afternoon. Classes were set to begin today at St. Edward. Instead, cleaning crews will be at the school working to get the mold cleaned up. A letter sent to parents blames the situation on “excessive humidity” over the summer.

St. Edward School does not have central air conditioning. School officials say they’re now hoping to begin classes on Monday.
