The extended holiday weekend weather forecast will be highlighted by mostly clear and comfortable conditions. But, National Weather Service meteorologist Brad Small says some more severe thunderstorms could pop up across parts of the state today through tomorrow.

“If you’ve got activities planned for the weekend, keep an eye on Saturday. That’s the most likely day for precipitation,” Small said. “If you’ve got an option to switch (outdoor activities) to Sunday or Monday…there should be plenty of sunshine and more pleasant conditions.” A Heat Advisory remains in effect today for far southeast Iowa after much of the state reported temperatures in the upper 90s Thursday. Dozens of school districts dismissed classes early. Small says cooler conditions will be here soon.

Highs tomorrow will be in the lower 70s northwest to the mid 80s southeast. Clear skies and highs in the low to mid 70s are expected Sunday and Monday.
