Iowa saw steamy high temperatures in the 90s on Monday but forecasters say it may reach down into the freezing 20s tonight. A Freeze Warning is being issued for about a dozen counties in northwest and northern Iowa, while a Frost Advisory covers Iowa’s northern half.

Kevin Deitsch, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, says it’s time to bring in any plants you’d like to save. Deitsch says a front is moving over Iowa, bringing showers this morning and much colder, stronger winds from the north tonight, dropping the lows overnight into the mid-30s in southern Iowa and the upper-20s in northern Iowa.

He says it’s likely there will be some new record low temperatures set tomorrow across Iowa but the cold snap won’t last. Highs should be back in the 70s by the weekend.

Summer has a little over a week remaining as the first day of Fall is Friday, September 23rd. For more on the forecast, visit: www.weather.gov.
