Test results have been released that show the cause of death for an inmate at the Scott County jail last month. Forty-year-old Phillip Towery was alone in his cell when guards found him unresponsive on October 20th, just three hours after he had been booked into the jail on a fifth-degree theft charge.

He was pronounced dead at a Davenport hospital. An autopsy determined the cause of death was mixed drug intoxication of methadone and alprazolam. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office says Towery consumed the drugs prior to his arrest and being transported to the jail.
