A horrid shooting night led to another loss in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge for the Iowa Hawkeyes who made only 16 of 56 shots in a 71-55 loss to Clemson in Iowa City. It was Iowa’s sixth straight loss in the series and they are now just 2-9 all time in the challenge. Coach Fran McCaffery says the Hawks panicked during a first half Clemson run and ill advised shots made things worse.
McCaffery says they have to understand that there was still a long time to go in the game and you have to get back into two points at a time and it’s easier to get a stop after you score. McCaffery says shooting was not the only area where Clemson dominated the game.
He says they were outrebounded 42-27 and he says that has nothing to do with missed shots, it is rebounding angles, effort and getting the guards to rebound better. After a 3-0 start the Hawks have dropped three of their last four but McCaffery is confident they will get things turned around.
McCaffery says it is frustrating, but the key is to be positive and to keep working. Freshman Josh Ogelsby was a bright spot on an otherwise dreadful evening. He finished with 15 points to lead the Hawks. He says every team has poor shooting nights, but executing the offense is a big thing.
Ogelsby says they were ready to play, but it was one of those nights where they were not making shots. Andre Young led Clemson with 19 points and the Tigers connected on 52 percent for the game.
