A central Iowa resident has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for providing prescription pain pills to a college student who died of an overdose. Fourty-nine-year-old Scott Seward of LeGrand pleaded guilty in March to conspiring to distribute oxycodone resulting in death. He was sentenced to prison Monday.

Authorities say Seward had legal access to oxycodone to treat Multiple Sclerosis, but he often traded the pain killers for marijuana or cash. His marijuana dealer, 25-year-old Christopher Haskell, was also sentenced to eight years in prison in November for his role in the case.

Haskell admitted delivering oxycodone to 23-year-old Mitch McCrink who died of an overdose in March of 2010. It happened in Iowa City where McCrink was attending Kirkwood Community College. He was a 2006 graduate of Marshalltown High School.
