An accident at a roller skating rink on New Year’s Eve has resulted in the death of a Mason City woman. Mason City police say they were called at about 11:30 Saturday night to Roller City after 36-year-old Toni Torres was injured in a fall at the rink during a speed skating session.
Sgt. Mike Thomas said witnesses reported that Torres was speed skating when she fell forward. Torres was taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa where she was pronounced dead, her death being attributed to a neck injury.
Torres was a member of the River City Dames of Anarchy team, a flat-track team based in Mason City.
