Iowa State scored 44 points in the opening half and went on to down Texas 77-71 in their Big 12 opener in Hilton Coliseum. It was the Cyclones first victory over the Longhorns since 2005.

I.S.U. coach Fred Hoiberg says it was huge to get started with a victory on their home court. He says the team was focused after nearly losing to Mississippi Valley State on New Years Eve. “I think we learned a lot after that last game, we talked about it, had a big team meeting for almost an hour, talking, just getting things off our chest,” Hoiberg says.

Chris Babb led five Cyclones in double figures with 17 points and Hoiberg was happy with the way his team shared the ball. He says they took giant steps forward by playing team basketball.

Royce White added 14 points as the Cyclones improve to 11-3 overall.
