The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is releasing details of a probe involving a Boone police officer. Last August 15th, the D.C.I. was contacted by Boone police to conduct the investigation into an allegation made against Officer Rodney Thompson.

The investigation was the result of an allegation made by an individual with the initials “J.S.” regarding the dissemination of what she felt were inappropriate text messages sent by Thompson to her 15-year-old daughter.

According to J.S.’s information, Thompson and J.S.’s daughter exchanged sexually explicit text message over a period of two days. Officer Thompson was placed on administrative leave by the Boone Police Department on August 15th,2011 and subsequently resigned on August 17th.

Based on the allegation made by J.S., the D.C.I. conducted the investigation. Interviews were conducted and evidence was seized and examined. The results of the inverviews and evidence analysis are considered confidential under Iowa Code, therefore no additional information will be released regarding the D.C.I. investigation.

The investigative report by the D.C.I. has been provided to the Iowa Attorney General’s Office for review and a charging decision.
