Iowa has won back to back road games in the Big Ten for the first time since 2007. Matt Gatens scored 19 points and the Hawkeyes held on despite missing five straight free throws in the waning seconds of a 64-62 win at Minnesota. “It’s a huge win for us, two a row on the road,” Gatens says.

The Hawkeyes trailed 32-21 but closed the first half on a 10-0 run then took the lead for good early in the second half.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery says it was not a perfect game, but it was a game where they fought and when that happens, he says you can handle anything that happens. Iowa switched to a zone defense in the opening half which triggered their run.

McCaffery says the Hawkeyes were not satisfied after last weekend’s victory at 11th ranked Wisconsin. “We refocused immediately after we beat Wisconsin, we didn’t allow that game to distract us,” McCaffery said.

Zach McCabe added 12 points and Aaron White chipped in with 10 as the Hawks improve to 10-6 overall.
