Icy roads may be to blame for separate traffic accidents Monday night that claimed the lives of teenage brothers from Lake City and a teenager from Pella. The Webster County Sheriff’s Department responded to a car versus pickup crash just before 6 p.m. Monday west of Moorland.

Authorities say the driver and a passenger in the car were killed when their vehicle slid into the path of the oncoming pickup. The victims are identified as brothers, 18-year-old Ryan Heuton and 15-year-old Gene Heuton.

Three teenagers in the back of the car and two people in the pickup were injured.

In south-central Iowa, a car and pickup collided on an ice-covered road near Pella at 6:45 p.m. The driver of the car, 16-year-old Blake Van Vark, was killed in the crash. Investigators said his car crossed the centerline and hit the pickup.
