It was another career high for Matt Gatens and another victory over a ranked opponent for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Gates poured in 33 points as the Hawks beat 15th ranked Wisconsin 67-66.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery says,”I don’t know if I’ve seen anything like it in all my years in the business.” McCaffery says the amazing thing is that Gattens was still playing hard defense the entire game and then they’d go to him on offense. “There’s nobody playing better than him in the country right now.”

McCaffery says Gattens doesn’t get caught up in the crowd and the importance of the game, he just goes out and plays. Iowa is 7-8 in the Big Ten and 15-13 overall. They visit a struggling Illinois team on Sunday.

The Hawkeyes led by 11 in the second half and won despite not hitting a field goal in the final 7:29.
