The girls state basketball tournament opens today in Wells Fargo Arena with the quarterfinal round in class 1A. Lynnville-Sully is making a third straight trip to state and the fourth ranked Hawks take on fifth rated West Sioux.

Lynnville-Sully coach Jerry Hulsing says they are really big with a couple of six footers who lead them and will be a good test, but he says his team will be ready to play. “We’ve been up there before, so we know what it’s all about, so we’ll just see what happens,” Hulsing says.

Hulsing says defense has been the key for his team all season. “You can’t always control whether the ball goes in the hole or not, or whther you are on or off, but the defensive effort can always be there and can always be something you can work on,” Hulsing says. He says they focus a lot on the defensive end and he says the kids respond and believe in that.
