A north-central Iowa man has been charged with bestiality for allegedly performing a sex act on a dog. Forty-nine-year-old Steven Schindler of LuVurne was released on his own recognizance after making his initial court appearance on Tuesday in Hancock County District Court in Garner.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department says Schindler, who is employed by Farmers Cooperative Elevator of Ottosen, went to a rural Britt customers residence on February 20th under the ruse of delivering propane and allegedly performed a sex act on the customer’s dog.

Schindler’s preliminary hearing has been set for March 15th in Hancock County District Court. If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison, a $6,250 fine and a mandatory mental health evaluation and treatment.
