The carousel at running back continues for the Iowa Hawkeyes with news that sophomore Jordan Canzeri suffered a torn ACL in a non contact drill during spring practice this week. Canzeri was one of three sophomores competing for the starting spot. The others are Damon Bullock and De’Andre Johnson.

Running back coach Lester Erb who coaches a position says Bullock has jumped around and Johnson has a lot of talent and will compete for the job in the spring. He says Greg Garmon and former Cedar Falls prep, Barkley Hill will also compete for a position that has been decimated by injury and defections the past few years.

Erb says it has been like starting over the past couple of seasons and he is getting good practice at it. He says the players are eager to learn and as a coach you start over every year anyway.

Bullock has returned to the running back spot after spending much of last season as a receiver. Erb says Bullock has demonstrated that he is a great athlete who is faster than people give him credit for. He says he is a slasher, but he is tough and they are excited to see how he can improve.

Erb says spring has been a learning experience for him under new offensive coordinator Greg Davis as he has been in the same system for 15 years. He says the terminology has changed, but the concepts haven’t changed overall.

Iowa closes out spring drills on April 14th.
