If you are a singer that’s looking to get a little notice, the Iowa Games is holding its second annual National Anthem contest. Games spokesman, Cory Kennedy says it proved to be a popular contest in the first year.

“We feel its a great way to get not just the athletes involved but fans involved and showcase some of the talent musically that’s in Iowa,” Kennedy says. The winner of the contest will sing the anthem at the opening ceremonies on July 13th in Ames and will also sing the anthem at an Iowa Cubs game on July 16th. Kennedy says all you need to enter is a video of your rendition of the anthem.

“They can submit a video to us, whether it’s a Youtube link or they can send in an actual video. And the best way to submit it is to call us our one-800 number at 888-777-8881, or email it to [email protected],” Kennedy says. The deadline to enter is April 18th at midnight.

The videos will be posted on-line for a vote. “We narrow down to just five finalists and we allow people to go on-line and vote through Facebook or our website,” Kennedy says. It’s a chance for the singer to display their talent in front of thousands of Iowans.

“At our opening ceremony there’ll be upwards of seven thousand people,” according to Kennedy. The top five videos will be announced on April 25th, and the voting will begin. The voting will end April 29th and the winner will be announced on May second.
