With three weeks remaining in the regular season the Iowa baseball team needs to strong together some wins to qualify for the Big Ten Tournament. At 6-9, the Hawks are currently ninth in the league race but they are only two games out of fourth heading into a three game series at home against Michigan beginning Friday night.

“We haven’t gone on a roll all year long, and had a lot of one run loses, but all of a sudden we had a great win on Sunday against Minnesota, ending their 15-game Big 10 winning streak in the dome,” Dahm says. They also got a walk off win against Wisconsin-Milwaukee and he hopes those wins propel them into a string of wins.

Dahm says the pitching staff has been keeping the Hawkeyes in games they just need to find a way to win the close ones. In the two straight one-run affairs, Dahm says the difference has been two out hits. He says they’ve got some good things going with players, and if they start to get a few more hot, then they can put up some runs.

Dahm says while the Hawkeyes need a lot of wins down the stretch they need to focus on the short term. He says they can’t look at the schedule, they have to win the first game on Friday and then move on to the next one.

Michigan is at the bottom of the league race with a 4-11 record. The series begins with a single game on Friday night.
