Morningside fell short of a trip to the NAIA national tournament but coach Brian Drent felt it was still a successful season for his team. The Mustangs finished the season 37-21 after losing twice to eventual champion Mount Marty in the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament.

They lost nine of their final 16 games and Drent feels like his team ran out of gas at the end. He says they are not a deep club and they had some players who played in all 58 games. Drent says the competition got better as they went along, so he is overall happy with where the program is at.

Drent says the close games they were winning earlier in the season started going the other way down the stretch. He says you need a call or base hit late to get those wins and he says as a young team they will hopefully learn and make adjustments for next year.

This was Drent’s first season as head coach and he feels the future is bright as they lose four, maybe five guys, so he says they have a lot of great pieces in place for next season.
