The best-selling R&B group of all time will perform on one of the Iowa State Fair’s “free stages” this summer. “Boyz II Men” grew famous over the past 20 years for hits like “End of the Road.”

The group will perform at seven o’clock on the last night of the Fair and, unlike the Fair’s Grandstand shows which require another ticket for admission to the concert, the price of admission to the fairgrounds is all fans will need to see Boyz II Men.  Boyz II Men set the all-time chart record when their collaboration with Mariah Carey on “One Sweet Day” held Billboard’s number one spot for 16 weeks.

“When I hear those songs it does take me back to the ’90s,” Iowa State Fair marketing director Lori Chappell said, laughing.

Another band that has sold 50 million records worldwide will perform on another free stage at the Fair. “WAR” — a band that fused funk and reggae — is perhaps best known for the song “Low Rider.”

There are five stages on the fairgrounds which will offer free concerts during the Fair’s August run. The WAR concert starts at eight o’clock on Sunday, August 19.  WAR and Boyz II Men are performing on the same night — the last night of the Fair — and Chappel said that’s by design.

“Several years ago the last day of the Fair wasn’t as popular, so we started adding more activities, more high-profile shows and it’s really paid off,” she said.

The Iowa State Fair’s website has a list of all the free acts on the fairgrounds, with a list of hit songs in case the band’s name alone doesn’t spark your memory.
