Two central Iowans were killed in two separate crashes in western Iowa on Thursday. The Iowa State Patrol says 32-year-old Randy Johnson, of Winterset, died Thursday morning in Adair County after the pickup he was driving went out of control when he swerved to avoid running into the back of a van as he was traveling west on Interstate 80 near Adair.

Johnson’s truck crossed the median and both eastbound lanes of traffic before entering the south ditch, rolling over, and ejecting him. And, 78-year-old Beverly Chase of West Des Moines died Thursday afternoon when the car she was a passenger in was hit broadside at an intersection in rural Guthrie County.

The driver of the vehicle she was in, 77-year-old Nadine Ludwig of Des Moines, failed to yield after stopping at an intersection. Her car was hit by a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Angela Lovejoy of Coon Rapids. All three women were transported to the Audubon County Hospital, where Chase died from her injuries.
