Ankeny is 24-2 and now at the top of the latest Class 4A Radio Iowa/Baseball Coaches Association High School Poll. Ankeny coach Mark Hey who says the Hawks have played well against a demanding conference schedule in the CIML Central and says he’s proud of what they have done.

Hey says a big key for the Hawks is their pitching depth. “We’re almost too deep in a way, that we ave try to get kids innings. We probably go 10, 11 12 kids that I wouldn’t hesitate putting in a game in a varsity situation,” Hey says.

Hey says as the post season tournament approaches he would like to see his team continue to make strides on defense. He says they’ve had a couple of speed bumps they need to shore up and keep throwing strikes on the mound. Hey says any little mistake that gives up runs in the state tournament can cost you.
