A 15-game winning streak has moved the B-G-M High School baseball team into title contention in the South Iowa Cedar League and the latest top ten. The Bears are 18-2 on the season and ranked eighth in class 1A in the latest Radio Iowa/Coaches poll heading into tonight’s visit to Cedar Valley Christian.

B-G-M coach Jerod Burns says the conference is always really competitive and they were just hoping to play well enough to be in the top two or three with a chance to win the conference. He has an experienced team of players who have enjoyed success in other sports as the football team has won two district titles in a row, the basketball and wrestling teams have also finished high in the conference standings.

Burns says a deep pitching staff has been a major factor this season. The Bears have given up more than four runs in a game once this season and that was in a 9-5 win over Lynnville-Sully. He says the good pitching has carried over into the hitting and the defense.
