Another sweltering day is ahead as a Heat Advisory is posted for much of southern, central and eastern Iowa. Forecasters say highs for the region will again be in the upper 90s with hundred-degree readings possible in Burlington, Lamoni and Shenandoah.

Meteorologist Jim Lee, at the National Weather Service, says we’d better get used to the heat. “It doesn’t look like we’re going to have any substantial relief anytime in the next seven days,” Lee says.

“There might be a couple days where we only get into the upper 80s. That might feel kind of cool. Most days will be in the 90s and we’ll see mid-to-upper 90s at times.” Not everyone hates the heat. Lance Draeger (DRAY-gur) manages the Webster City Outdoor Swimming Pool and says attendance this summer so far has been super.

“Temperatures have been good and really hot,” Draeger says. “We’ve got the new slide in and everything’s been really good. Attendance has been real consistent and as good as we can ask for.” Iowa’s hottest spot yesterday was Des Moines with an official high reading of 101.

It’s the first time Iowa’s capitol city has reached at least 100-degrees in six years. It’s also the first time Des Moines hit triple-digits in June since 1988.
