The idea for Radio Iowa was born out of a desire to “connect” Iowa’s best broadcasters. We hired some outstanding Iowa journalists. We setup a newsroom in Des Moines. We had the satellites. But the network was – and remains today – YOU, the radio stations who put us on the air.

Radio Iowa’s first broadcast aired July 1, 1987 on 30 stations. Today we proudly deliver Iowa’s top news and sports stories to over 60 affiliates. We have combined the talent and hard work of our reporters with that of affiliate news staffs to serve listeners throughout this great state.

Together we have covered some big stories: presidential elections, Hawkeye/Cyclone sports, debates, floods, Caucuses, tornados, high school sports, and even a few interviews from space. And, when your station broke a story of statewide (or national) significance, Radio Iowa provided a platform for quickly sharing it.

It is partner stations like yours that make this network so strong. So, thank you for letting Radio Iowa be part of the great Iowa broadcasting tradition.

We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together and look forward to serving you and your communities for the next 25 years.

Sincerely,
Clyde Lear
