A new program from the Iowa Finance Authority can provide people looking to change homes with financial help for the down payment and closing costs. I.F.A. communications director, Ashley Jared, says they’ve helped first-time home buyers for years, and now are expanding that help.
Jared says they’ve seen over the last several years that repeat buyers have had some trouble saving for the down payment. “This Homes For Iowans Plus program is open to repeat buyers throughout the state. It gives them up to 25-hundred dollars in down payment and closing costs assistance,” Jared explains.
The program is available through participating realtors throughout the state. “With our first-time home buyer program there’s specific limitations where you truly do need to be a first time home buyer. We just had people telling us ‘darn it I’m not necessarily a first time home buyer, but my circumstances have changed, I want a different place,’ this really just opens it up a little bit for a lot more Iowans to be eligible for it,” Jared says.
