A bicyclist from Colorado is pedaling across Iowa this week, heading for southeastern Minnesota where he’ll take part in a larger ride to raise money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity. Tim Dellett  left Kansas City on Saturday and is due to arrive in the Twin Cities by the weekend.

“I’m doing a solo ride up to what’s called the Habitat 500, which is a seven-day, 500-mile group ride starting in a suburb of Minneapolis this year,” he says. Dellett is making stops in Ames, Fort Dodge and Mason City, en route to the Twin Cities and the next ride, which starts on Sunday.

“This is the 20th anniversary for the Habitat 500 ride,” he says. “It’s not a race, it’s just a fun, seven-day tour for folks who like to bike and believe in the mission of Habitat for Humanity.” The Habitat 500 is limited to 135 riders.

The ride is bringing in $245,000 this year and has hauled in 4.5-million in its 20 years, helping people realize the dream of home ownership. Learn more at: www.habitat500.org
