A Wisconsin man who’s now jailed in northwest Iowa may be responsible for at least 25 burglaries in Iowa and Minnesota since early June.

Forty-nine-year-old Joseph Detaege of Appleton, Wisconsin, is facing several charges of burglary, theft, and criminal mischief.

During the early morning hours on Sunday, a Hawarden police officer who was on patrol in Ireton noticed glass broken out of the door at the Ireton Co-op. The officer discovered Detaege still inside the office.

After officers surrounded the building, Detaege surrendered without incident. Police found a large amount of cash inside his vehicle, along with a map of Iowa which highlighted several communities and routes. Authorities believe Detaege is responsible for burglaries in Ireton, Alton, Granville, Sioux Center, and Hull, as well as others in Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola and Cherokee counties.
