Police in the Des Moines suburb of Urbandale say no criminal charges will be filed in connection with the death of an infant at an in-home daycare. Officers were called to the home of Kimberly Kimmer on May 25 on the report of an unresponsive child.

Officer Randy Peterson says the child, one-year-old Emma Bright, was pronounced dead at the home. The Polk County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and found no evidence of injuries to the child and a toxicology test came back negative.

Peterson says, unfortunately, the cause of Emma’s death may never be known. “We’re thankful that somebody didn’t abuse the child, but you still have that unknown as to exactly why the child died and such an unfortunate, untimely death,” Peterson said.

Police have classified the cause of death as undetermined.
