L.A. lawyers representing the band that recorded the song “My Sharona” have filed a lawsuit against the Cedar Falls man who faces federal charges in an alleged multi-million dollar fraud.

Russell Wasendorf named his restaurant in Cedar Falls “My Verona”, reworked the popular tune “My Sharona” and it’s still in use on the restaurant’s website. The website makes no mention of the restaurant’s closure or the collapse of Wasendorf’s trading firm.

Wasendorf attempted suicide earlier this month and he was later charged with bilking investors of at least $100 million.

“My Sharona” was a number one song for The Knack in 1979 and Wasendorf could be fined tens of thousands of dollars for copyright infringement for using the song on his restaurant’s website without permission.
