Two central Iowa girls created a stir when they made a false report about an attempted kidnapping. Indianola Police alerted the media that two girls, ages 11 and 14, reported that a male in a white van attempted to get in the vehicle with him Monday evening.

Police say during subsequent interviews, detectives found several discrepancies in their statements. Once confronted about the discrepancies, police say both girls admitted that they fabricated the story and there had been no abduction attempt.

The girls told police that they came up with the story to play a joke on a relative. The fake kidnapping report comes as the search continues for two girls from Evansdale who have been missing since July 13th.

There have also been reports in a half dozen central Iowa cities of attempted abductions. There have been no arrests in any of those cases.
