Ames police have released more information on the person who fell from a fifth-floor apartment balcony early Sunday morning. Commander Jim Robinson says officers were called just after 1:30 in the morning.

“Upon our arrival, we identified the victim as a Christian McKee, he’s a 19-years-old of Ames. And McKee sustained a number of serious injuries from the fall,” Robinson said. He says McKee — an Iowa State University student — was flown by air ambulance to Des Moines. Robinson says they have been able to get some idea of what happened.

McKee had actually climbed over the fifth floor balcony railing onto the ledge of the apartment complex, and witnesses state that McKee was alone at the time of the fall,” according to Robinson. He says McKee did not live at the apartment where he fell and alcohol could be a factor.

“We have not been able to speak with him as of yet,” Robinson says. “This was the early morning hours. Some witnesses have indicated that he had been to some parties earlier in the evening.” Robinson says they will need to see test results to determine if alcohol was involved.
