The Drake football team goes on the road for the first time in Pioneer Football League action as the Bulldogs travel to North Carolina to take on Campbell University. Drake opened the PFL race last week by rallying for a 28-25 victory over Morehead State of Kentucky and coach Chris Creighton says his team was fortunate to survive a “flat” performance.

“It’s difficult to sustain a high level of emotional intensity over the course of a season, but the championship teams do,” Creighton says. “Or the championship teams do almost always, and the games that they have that are flat, they find a way to win.”

Creighton says this will be the first of several tough road trips for the Bulldogs in the league race. He says if you are going to win the championship, you have to win on the roads.

Creighton says this will be a different look for the Drake defense. Campbell quarterback Dakota Wolf has topped the 100 yard mark in rushing the past two weeks. “They’re more of an option run team, so that’s what we’re focusing on.”

Creighton says the defense will need to be disciplined against the Campbell option attack as there are three different guys who could get the ball and that doesn’t include the playaction passes.

Drake is 2-2 overall.
