A ditch collapsed and trapped a Sioux City man in northwest Iowa. The accident happened Thursday morning, four miles northwest of Sioux Center.

The Sioux County Sheriff says 20-year-old Nathaniel Christensen, an employee of L.A. Carlson Contracting from Merrill, was working with a crew to dig the trench when the dirt collapsed on top of him. Sioux Center fire and ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene along with sheriff’s deputies.

Christensen was rescued by his co-workers and the emergency crews. He was taken to a local hospital and then flown to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City where he was listed in fair condition.
