Evelyn Miller

The man accused of murdering five-year old Evelyn Miller made his initial court appearance at the Floyd County Courthouse this morning

Thirty-three-year-old Casey Frederiksen is charged with first-degree murder and first degree sexual abuse in the 2005 death of Evelyn Miller, the daughter of his former girlfriend.

Bond was set today at one million dollars on each charge.

Evelyn’s mother, Noel, reported to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office that her daughter was missing on July 1st of 2005. Frederiksen had been caring for Evelyn and the couple’s two other children and told law enforcement he last saw Evelyn at approximately 2:00 a.m.

Miller’s body was found along the banks of the Cedar River between Charles City and Floyd on July sixth. Details about Miller’s death and the condition of her body were never disclosed.

Frederiksen was charged with Miller’s murder in September of this year based in part on comments he made while in jail that revealed information that authorities had not released.

Frederiksen was returned to Iowa from a federal prison in Illinois where he is serving time on a child pornography charge. He will be appointed a public defender and a preliminary hearing is set for October 26 at the Floyd County Courthouse.
