No one has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Dubuque over the weekend that left one teenager dead and another in the hospital. Police say it happened just before midnight Saturday outside a residence in the 2000 block of Jackson Street north of downtown Dubuque.

Fifteen-year-old Marlon Barber, Jr. was killed, while 16-year-old Demarcus Timmons was injured. Lieutenant Scott Baxter says investigators are working to identify suspects.

“Right now, they’re still busy following leads and trying to identify everybody involved,” Baxter said. “We feel we’ve made some significant progress in that regard, but we still need to talk to some additional people…we know there are more individuals out there who have crucial information and need to come forward.”

The shooting happened as a fight erupted outside a party. It’s unclear how many people were there, but there were several witnesses, according to Baxter. “Regardless of how important they think their information might be, we need them to come forward and let us access the value of that information, get it into a report and act on it if necessary,” Baxter said.

Barber, who would’ve turned 16 in November, died in the operating room at Dubuque’s Mercy Hospital. Timmons was taken to Finley Hospital. His wounds are described as non life-threatening.
