The Iowa Department of Transportation has added a service that allows you to view your driving record on-line. Kim Snook, the director of D.O.T. driver services, says you can see the record for free, or purchase a certified copy.

Snook says the record will show the most recent convictions and violations, usually within the last three years that are on your driving record. She says it goes along with the electronic services that also allow you to get an e-mail reminder when you driver’s license needs to be renewed, or you can change your mailing address.

Snook says the D.O.T. gets hundreds of requests for driving records each year. “Many people just want to make sure their driving record is correct, so they can just view it for that. Some of them, their employers may want it and they have to come in and purchase it anyway, so now they can get their own and take it to their employers if they want.”

Snook says they have a variety of security measures to be sure you are the only one who can view your record.”We feel they are pretty sufficient security items, only things that you would have in front of you, or that you would know. So security wise, we are pretty consistent with other on-line services that are out there,” Snook says.

To see your driving record, you can go to: mymvd.iowadot.gov. You will need to enter you name, date of birth, last five digits of you Social Security number and your driver’s license number.
