Governor Terry Branstad says he supports recent management changes made by the new state public safety commissioner.

“You want to have the right people on the bus and you want to have them in the right seats and I think that’s what he’s trying to do with the Department of Public Safety,” Branstad says.

Brian London took over as Iowa’s Public Safety Commissioner last month.  Last week he  reassigned the head of the Iowa State Highway Patrol to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau and promoted a 23-year veteran of the Department of Public Safety to lead the Patrol. London’s other organizational changes essentially reverse changes the previous director made months ago.

“We asked him to look at what he thought was the best way to organize the Department of Public Safety,” Branstad says, “and so I have confidence that the decisions he’s making make sense to protect the safety of the citizens of Iowa.”

The directors of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the State Fire Marshal’s office and the Division of Intelligence and Fusion Center lost their titles and had their salaries cut. London named new directors for each of those three bureaus within the department.
