A Marshalltown man is facing charges for a deadly traffic crash last week. A 20-year-old woman and her four-month-old boy were killed when an SUV left a roadway in Marshalltown and rolled on its side in Linn Creek. Four other occupants of the vehicle were injured.
Marshalltown Police Captain Michael Hanken says the 22-year-old driver of the SUV is being held in the Marshall County Jail. Armando Garcia Chavarria is charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle and one count of serious injury by vehicle.
Hanken says Chavaria was the boyfriend of the woman who was killed. The crash happened just before 2 a.m. last Thursday (November 1).
Investigators have not said if speed or alcohol may’ve been factors in the crash. “We are continuing the investigation and we are potentially going to be looking at additional charges, should they be applicable, after our consultation with the Marshall County Attorney’s office,” Hanken said.
The victims are identified as four-month-old Dylan Quiros and 20-year-old Chendo Quezada. A 17-year-old girl remains hospitalized while Chavarria, a 20-year-old woman and a five-year-old girl have all been released.
