Contract talks between the University of Northern Iowa and the school’s faculty opened on Friday. U.N.I. professors have delivered the Board of Regents a proposal that asks for a 4.5% raise in each of the next two years.

Under the new contract, the faculty would get a 2.25% bump in their base salary next year, as well as an additional 2.25% based on the average salary of all professors. The faculty has also requested the same increases for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Other requests involve the ability to address the Board of Regents at least twice a year, and a clarified procedure for staff reduction. The Regents are expected to counteroffer by November 26.
