Man hit by train in Marshalltown

An early-morning pedestrian-train accident is under investigation in Marshalltown. At 4:53 this morning, the Marshalltown Police Department responded to the Union Pacific railroad tracks under the Center Street viaduct where they found a pedestrian had been struck by a Union Pacific train.

When officers and emergency personnel arrived, they were taken to the accident scene by railroad employees where they found a male, trapped underneath the train engine. With assistance from railroad employees, the victim was freed, initially transported to Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center and then flown by helicopter to a trauma center for treatment.
