The Iowa Hawkeye women could not overcome a slow start as they lost to North Carolina 77-64 in the championship game of the Preseason WNIT. The Tar Heels raced out to a 22 point first half advantage and handed the Hawkeyes their first loss of the season.

Iowa coach Lisa Bluder says they did not play well in the first half with 15 turnovers that led to 19 points for North Carolina. She says North Carolina’s pressure on defense was the difference. Bluder says they had trouble getting the ball over the larger guards of North Carolina.

Morgan Johnson led Iowa with 20 points and 11 rebounds. The Hawks are 3-1 and return to action Tuesday night against Robert Morris.
