Iowa’s largest manufacturing employer is making a big investment in one of its facilities in the Quad Cities. John Deere plans to spend 58-million dollars to upgrade its seeding operations in Moline, Illinois, where planting equipment is made.
Company officials say the goals are to increase efficiency and quality. The investment will include a new paint system and a boost in the use of automation and robotics. The plant now employs about 800 workers and no significant change is expected in jobs, up or down, with the announcement.
Deere has run seeding operations at the Moline location since 1879.
