A 28-year-old Newton man is accused of taking an child who was not dressed properly outside in near freezing temperatures Tuesday. James Bonnett has been charged with child endangerment. Deputies were called to a Newton mobile home park around 8:30 yesterday morning.

The child’s mother said she tried to keep Bonnett from taking the eight-month-old child outside. Bonnett admitted to deputies that he took 18 pills of over-the-counter cold medicine in an attempt to get high before going outside with the child.

Bonnett is free on a $2,000 bond.
