In women’s college hoops action last night, Iowa handed Iowa State it’s first loss of the season 50-42. Iowa coach Lisa Bluder says the key was the Hawkeyes’ defense. The 22nd ranked Cyclones entered the contest averaging 74 points per game.

“You know they took 34 three’s out of their 57 shots and only made 20 percent of them. I thought that was a key that didn’t allow them to get to the free throw line when they are taking that many three’s,” Bluder.

Junior guard Theairra Taylor, who’s suffered three ACL injuries over her college career, led Iowa with 11 points. But, Bluder was more impressed with Taylor’s 9 rebounds.

The 7-3 Hawkeyes have already beaten UNI and can claim the mythical state championship if they can get by Drake, in Des Moines, on December 16. The Bulldogs beat North Dakota State, in Fargo, last night 62-50.
