A southwest Iowa resident was killed in crash early this morning on an ice-covered section of Interstate 80.

The Iowa State Patrol says 56-year old Duane Allen of Glenwood died when the pickup he was driving went out of control, entered the median and struck an unoccupied SUV that was stuck in the median as a result of Thursday’s blizzard and had not been towed.

Allen died at the scene. The Patrol says he was not wearing a seat belt. The accident happened around 5:20 a.m. on I-80 eastbound, about six miles southwest of Underwood.
