The Drake Bulldogs will try to regain their shooting touch when they visit nationally ranked Creighton tonight in Missouri Valley Conference play. Drake is off to an 0-3 start in the league race and the Bulldogs face a Creighton team that is 3-0 in the Valley and 14-1 overall.

“They maximize their talent with tremendous basketball I.Q.,” says Drake coach Mark Phelps. “…It’s going to be a heck of a challenge. At the same time, it’ll be a great opportunity for our team.”

After spending much of the season as one of the nation’s top three-point shooting teams, the Bulldogs are only connecting on 25 percent from behind the arc in conference play.

“It’s been a combination of things,” he says. “I think we’re still the same good-shooting, good-passing, highly-skilled, pretty deep offensive team that we were earlier in the season and I think it’s just a matter of time before we get back to that team.”

Creighton coach Greg McDermott says it is only a matter of time until the Bulldogs break out of the slump. He’s just hoping it’s not against his Bluejays.

“It’s a very, very dangerous offensive team,” McDermott says. “And they certainly have our attention, with their ability to score the basketball.”
