Luther College in Decorah is hosting a documentary film festival this weekend. The fourth annual Oneota Film Festival started last night and runs through tomorrow. Kate Scott is one of the organizers and says the films in the fest all loosely follow the theme of sustainability.

“We show films that have to do with the economy, with health care, with the environment, with agriculture, human rights issues, a lot of different things and we’ve recently started to add films that have to do with recreation and adventure,” Scott says. Those include everything from mountain-climbing to skateboarding.

Scott says the films that will be shown this year are wide-ranging in topics and cover issues from the light-hearted to the serious, like this one. One of the featured films is called, “Escape Fire, The Fight To Rescue American Health Care,” which takes an intimate look at our health care system from the viewpoints of both the patient and the provider, and how to improve the system from within.

Scott said the festival will feature a number of special guests, including filmmaker Justin Lubke, who has two films in the festival. One of his films is called “Not Yet Begun To Fight,” which follows returning veterans as they deal with the physical and emotional wounds of war and using fly-fishing to work toward healing.

Admission to the festival is free. Learn more at: www.oneotafilmfestival.org.
