The governor’s 62-year-old budget director has been released from the hospital.

Iowa Department of Management director Dave Roederer “laid down and passed out” in his statehouse office Wednesday morning.

Roederer suffered a heart attack in 1994, but the governor’s communications director says the current diagnosis is “a kidney stone.”

Roederer is a long-time aide to Governor Branstad and was the chairman of George W. Bush’s 2004 campaign in Iowa. He was John McCain’s main man in Iowa in 2008. In late 2010 Branstad tapped Roederer to handle the transition back into the governor’s office, then the governor named Roederer as his budget director.
